Becoming Local
This work aims to create a local as a place that does not exist. A virtual local is created using a generative adversarial networks(GAN). A local place may or may not exist. To me, it belongs to the non-existent side. I think that the existence of local as any material place to which I belong is similar to deep fake photos, videos, and audio files created by machine learning that exist on the Internet. It's like an error that exists but doesn't exist. The local errors and noises created through the repeated and learned algorithm are replaced with my local and delivered in a flat two-dimensional frame. Randomly played images come with sounds learned by machine learning algorithms. The following two audio spectrums can be selected and listened to. One is the original sound of the video, and the other is the sound learned by a machine learning algorithm.
These videos are those from day to day spent participating in a residency called Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, Germany. From November to June of last year, lockdown was implemented throughout Germany, and I had to live in lockdown throughout my residency period. My life radius was limited around the residency, and I used to go downtown only to go to the supermarket sometimes. Corona is a viewpoint and diary about my local, which I observed through winter to spring during a special time.

로컬의 알고리즘
이 작업은 존재하지 않는 장소로서의 로컬을 만들고자 한다. 생성적 적대 신경망 - Generative Advesarial Network(GAN) - 알고리즘을 이용하여 가상의 로컬을 생성한다. 로컬이라는 장소는 존재할 수도 있고 존재하지 않을 수도 있다. 나에겐 존재하지 않는 편에 속한다. 내가 온전히 속한 어떠한 물질적 장소로서의 로컬의 존재 유무는 인터넷에 존재하는 머신러닝으로 만들어낸 딥 페이크 사진이나 영상, 오디오 파일과 비슷하단 생각이 든다. 존재하지만 존재하지 않는 오류같은 것이다. 반복되고 학습된 알고리즘을 통해 만들어낸 로컬의 오류와 노이즈를 나의 로컬로 대체하여 납작한 이차원의 프레임속으로 전달한다. 랜덤으로 플레이 되는 영상은 머신러닝 알고리즘에 의해 학습된 소리가 같이 나온다. 아래 두개의 오디오 스펙트럼은 선택하여 들을 수 있다. 하나는 영상의 오리지널 사운드이고, 하나는 머신러닝 알고리즘으로 학습되어진 소리이다. 이 영상들은 독일 슈튜트가르트에서 Akademie Schloss Solitude라는 레지던시에 참여하면서 보낸 하루하루의 영상들이다. 지난해 11월 부터 6월까지 독일은 전역에 걸쳐서 락다운을 시행했으며, 나는 레지던시 기간 내내 락다운속에서 살아야 했다. 나의 생활 반경은 레지던시 주변으로 한정되어 지고 가끔 수퍼마켓을 갈때만 시내에 나가곤 했다. 코로나라는 특수한 시간동안 겨울에서 봄을 관통하며 관찰한 나의 로컬에 대한 시점이자 일기이다.
